We have had some instances where our training videos will not run in Windows 10, and some situations where the video only starts to run maybe 5 minutes later. What is the cause of this and what's the solution?
The cause .. Our videos, like most videos you will view on your computer are compressed to save disk space. This is very common in the world of video publication. Just about every video you watch is compressed. These compressed videos need an interpreter .. a file that tells Windows how to decompress the file so it can be viewed. These interpreters are called "codecs". For some reason Windows 10 does not include our codec which is produced by a company named Techsmith. It's a very efficient codec and that is why we selected it. To handle instances where Windows might not have our codec installed each video tries to install the codec before running the video so the system should be trouble free. However Windows 10 will pause the process and ask you if you want to install the codec. No matter what you answer the interruption by Windows does not play the video after it installs the codec or doesn't install the codec, as per your selection.
The cure .. If you have a 64 bit version of Windows 10 (most do) you can install the 64 bit version of the codec. Then Windows 10 will still ask you if you want to install the codec but you can select not to install it and the video will then play. Here is the link for the 64 bit version of the codec ..
https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/ ... TSCC-codec
If you have a 32 bit version of Windows 10 and have this problem try installing the TSCC codec from the link below and see if that doesn't fix your issue ..
Let us know if this does not clear up your issue.
